Plant Your Feet
The problems you face are yours to solve.
Most people don’t have their feet planted.
It is rare to talk to someone and get a sense that they are excited about their job. You may ask what they do and get a bland description ending in “it’s a job.”
Their view of work is to go accomplish tasks they were told to do and leave as soon as possible. Week after week they do the same tasks.
Checking off simple to-do’s is not what we are made for. It may be satisfying to check the “complete” box but over time it drains you of motivation and purpose. It leaves you wanting. Searching for the next best thing.
When you are void of motivation then you don’t step up to solve problems. Problems arise in their work or personal life and rather than taking ownership they complain and avoid. They search elsewhere rather than solve where they’re at. In reality, the next best thing is hiding your next big problem.
It’s time to plant your feet. The most satisfying times I’ve had in my work is when we overcame obstacles and solved a big problem. Craig Groeschel says you need to view yourself as the Chief Problem Solver. The compensation you receive mirrors the difficulty of the problems you solve.
The value you bring reflects the size and the scope of the problems you solve.
When you begin to see problems as opportunity, your work begins to be exciting because there’s opportunity all around you. It gets conveyed in your voice when you talk about your job. You wake up feeling energized, excited, and ready.
It begins with planting your feet. The problems you face are yours to solve.
