Normalized Weakness
Comforts and conveniences in Western society are abundant and have caused a subtle transformation, reshaping the expectation of strength among men and fathers. We are overindulged in luxuries and have become unfamiliar with adversity.
Seeing a man of self-control and discipline is unfortunately rare.
Morgan and I went to the movies a few weeks ago and a couple came in and sat by us. The man had the outward appearance of a manly man. Tattoos, military style clothes, a mustache, you get the picture…
We were all pretty early to the movie and I watched him sit next to his wife scrolling on social media for 20 minutes before the movie started. His wife was sadly looking at him. He was completely distracted, letting his mind be entertained rather than engaged with his wife.
The convenience of modern living often masks the need for strength, discipline, or self-control. Men should resist the allure of complacency that comes with abundance. Resist the pull of ease and embrace challenge.
Strength comes when we avoid the ease of comfortable living. It's about embracing challenges, navigating through adversity, and fortifying one's character against the subtle corrosion of excess comfort.
