A Message from a Legend
Courage in the face of evil
I attended one of the greatest leadership conferences that exists this week.
Top notch speakers, a relatively low cost, and wide livestream distribution across nations, companies, schools, churches, and prisons.
The Global Leadership Summit (GLS) never fails to hit the nail on the head.
One of the speakers was “Coach K.” The legendary Duke University men’s basketball coach for over four decades and Team USA coach for several Olympics. He won college national championships in 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, and 2015. He won Olympic gold medals in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
He was prolific.
His talk was filled with street-smart leadership techniques and ideas. One standout topic was courage.
His message was to have the courage to say or do what needs to be said or done at that moment in time.
We live in a politically correct world. People are unwilling to say what needs to be said. Unwilling to be honest with each other.
Leaders of businesses, communities, ministries, and/or families shouldn’t be that way. They should be honest.
Loving may not always feel nice. Being loving may make someone feel like garbage in the moment because everyone needs called out from time to time. This can be done in a good way, but it always stings.
We should be willing to say what needs to be said.
Speak up in the meeting. Lead in the home. Push back against evil. Don’t rollover just because everyone is doing something.
If you haven’t noticed, normal is broken. We shouldn’t want our families to be normal. Most marriages are ending in divorce these days. It will take courage to pushback against that normal.
Do you have an importance - energy gap? List the top 10 people or things that are most important to you. Rate their importance to you from 1-10. Then, rate the amount of time & energy you spend with or on it. The bigger the gap, the bigger the problem.
This idea came from Molly Fletcher’s talk at GLS.
