Am I cold hearted?
I've been feeling convicted.
I am not a compassionate person.
I focus on getting to work, getting home, getting the kids to practice, getting to bed. People in need are a disruption to that flow.
Life is busy and I push myself to make the most of my time.
The daily rhythm of life has pulled me away from being compassionate.
Compassion is slow because relationships are slow. They are messy. It takes time to walk through things with people.
I’ve been convicted of that sin this week. Life isn’t about getting things done but that’s how I’ve been treating it.
The difference between people is not a result of their actions. The difference is the grace of God.
Here are practical steps I intend to do a better job at.
1. Cultivate Humility: Regularly repent of your sin, reflect on the grace you've received, and thank God for how great He is. This fosters humility that opens your heart and mind to understanding and compassion for others.
2. Practice Empathy: Make a conscious effort to understand the perspectives and experiences of those around you, seeking to empathize with their joys and struggles.
3. Prioritize Forgiveness: Choose forgiveness over resentment, releasing the burden of harbored grudges and allowing your heart to remain soft and open to the transformative power of God's love.
4. Encourage Others Seek out fellowship with other believers and encourage them towards Christ. Hebrews 3:13 (NIV) "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called 'Today,' so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness."
